Marley’s Story – Young Person

“I’ve learnt plenty of life skills and discovered the importance of being heard and having a voice.”
Marley has been a regular attendee in our youth sessions for over 5 years, he has also embraced a Young Volunteer role, balancing having fun with his peers and more responsibilities acting as a role model for others.
“Attending the youth club has helped me meet new people and has opened up new possibilities for me,” Marley explains.
The confidence he has gained gave him the courage to perform in a school dance show and even be interviewed for a national news channel.
Marley shared with us that some of the main challenges for young people today are a “lack of youth-friendly spaces, and the need for better mental health support and guidance.”
He recognises that young people need to feel safe and reflects:
“Parks are often designed for small children, but teenagers also need a safe place where they can simply ‘be’, whether that’s playing football or finding a quiet space to chill out.”
Marley’s journey is a powerful example of how a supportive, consistent programme such as our weekly youth sessions can help a young person find their voice and inspire others to do the same.
