Clare’s Story – Volunteer Chef

Clare, a local business owner spotted an advert through our social media for a voluntary chef at our Community Cooking sessions.

“Door 84 offers support to those who need it. I had the skill set, knowledge, and time that they were looking for; it seemed a great match.”

As a business owner, Clare believes that while financial donations are vital, skill-based volunteering offers something money can’t buy: inspiration.

By sharing her story of starting a business as a single mum with no money, she’s provided a living example of resilience.

“Hands-on support brings interactions and conversations,” she explains. “Some attendees may feel inspired to cook more at home or consider volunteering and work in this area.”

Clare told us that although the sessions focus on food, the magic happens around the prep table. “Beyond essential skills of teamwork and communication, I witnessed trust, kindness, gratitude, laughter, friendship, and confidence.”
