Jane’s Story – Cooking Course Attendee

29/7/2026

“Door 84 pulls together people from all walks of life including those who need to feel they are not alone”  says Jane.

When Jane first walked through our doors she was navigating a difficult chapter in her life, living alone as an adult for the first time, without a local support network.

The resulting depression and social anxiety meant she only left her house three times a week and each time, she chose to come to Door 84.

Jane decided to join our cooking course, the outcomes were as much about social connection as they were about food.

“I now feel I have a network of friends that genuinely care about how I am doing.”

By providing an informal and fun space to learn and socialise, the course helped Jane manage her social anxiety and broke the cycle of loneliness.

It’s inspired me to sign up for a further Level 2 Social Care course. I feel confident and full of momentum. It’s nice to be using my brain again and to feel challenged.”

Jane’s journey has come full circle; having found support at Door 84, she is now the one providing it by volunteering on our Sparks project for adults with additonal support needs.
