Hannah’s Story –  Gaining Valuable Experience

In 2024, Hannah began volunteering at Door 84 for her university placement. She discovered it was the ideal match after considering other possibilities.

Since starting, Hannah has learned a lot, especially about working with young people. “Every child is different, and I’ve even picked up new skills—like how to play pool—from the young people themselves!”

Volunteering has also helped Hannah gain valuable experience for their future career. “It’s helped me in a good way. I’ve been able to volunteer with the age group I want to eventually work with, meet different young people, and get used to what working with this age group is like.”

One of Hannah’s favourite parts of volunteering is getting involved in craft and board game activities. “It’s a great way to get to know the young people and have a conversation with them.”

For Hannah, every session brings something new. “It’s fun, enjoyable, and you never know what to expect! Every session is different.”
