Josh’s Story – Gaining Independence and Making Connections

Before joining Door 84, Josh found life quite boring. He didn’t socialize much and didn’t have anything else to attend during the week. Josh’s involvement with Door 84 was initiated through a newsletter and recommendations from friends who had positive experiences with the organisation. He decided to give it a try—and he’s never looked back.

Since getting involved, Josh has gained more independence and confidence. “It feels really good to be out of the house and do something for myself. I’ve really enjoyed it, and it’s helped me make new friends—people of different ages from different schools—and I love chatting to everyone, including the volunteers and staff.”

Some of his best memories include the Kingswood Residential, the Christmas pantomime trip, and ice skating, but his favourite part of Door 84 is Monday nights.

“I really enjoy helping the younger ones, whether it’s doing an activity, playing games, or just hanging out with them.”

For Josh, Door 84 has given him new experiences, friendships, and a sense of purpose—turning what was once a boring routine into something fun and fulfilling.
